A ski & snowboard app, currently in development

Find people to ski with. Today.

HotLaps shows you who’s on your mountain right now and makes it easy to link up — for a few laps, a pin at the top of chair 4, or beers at the lodge. It works with strangers, not just friends, because the whole problem is that your friends bailed.

What makes HotLaps different

It's an open graph

You can see and meet people you don't already know. Most ski apps only let you track your friends — which doesn't help when you showed up alone.

It only works on the mountain

Location sharing runs inside resort boundaries and stops the moment you leave. Not blurred, not throttled — off.

Après counts

“Beers at 4” is a first-class meetup, not a side feature. It's also the lowest-stakes way to meet someone before you share a chairlift with them.

One safety rule.

Live-location ski apps exist — we counted eight — and every one of them keeps its graph closed to friends-only. The reason is safety: nobody wants strangers knowing where they live. We agree. So HotLaps shares your location only while you’re inside a resort. When you head home, sharing stops.

Strangers seeing each other on the hill is the same trust model as strangers sharing a chairlift in real life — which is to say, fine.

You choose how precise.

Three sharing levels, changeable anytime.

  • Exact location. Your pin on the mountain map. For confident solo riders looking to lap with strangers.
  • General area. A coarse region of the resort — “north peak”, “back bowls”. This is the default.
  • Current lift. Just the chairlift you're at or last rode. The lowest-friction option.

Five kinds of meetup.

Not every meetup is an appointment. Pick whatever matches how committed you actually feel:

  • Open

Here for the day, down to ride with anyone.

  • Drop-in

Top of Chair 6 until 1pm. Come say hi.

  • Pin + time

Top of Chair 4 at 2pm. RSVP and show up.

  • Stated intent

Skiing Vail tomorrow morning — anyone in?

  • Après

Beers at the lodge at 4. Anyone?

Where it’s at.

We’re building HotLaps right now. iOS first, Android later. It’s not in the App Store yet — we’re seeding the twenty biggest US and Canadian resorts for v1 and plan to onboard mountain by mountain. If you want to try it early, or just have opinions about ski apps, we’d genuinely like to hear from you.
